Claim submission is the process of sending an insurance payer the information it needs to review a request for payment or reimbursement. The claim generally identifies the patient, provider, service date, service and diagnosis codes where applicable, and the amount charged. The exact information and submission method depend on the payer and the type of claim.
In out-of-network therapy, the client may be responsible for submitting claim paperwork, or the provider or a billing service may help with the process. A superbill can supply information needed for a claim, but it is not always the same as a claim itself. See Deputy Care’s guide to how to submit therapy claims to insurance.
